Ludhiana, May 7
A 33-year-old married man ended his life allegedly due to harassment by his wife and mother-in-law. Both women have been booked by the Saraba Nagar police station on charges of abetment of suicide.
The deceased has been identified as Sunny Gupta, a resident of BRS Nagar. The accused has been identified as deceased’s wife Ishita Gupta and mother-in-law Neeru Gupta. The couple has a two-month-old son.
Sunny, along with his family, was running a trading company, Ashoka Limited.
Gurpreet Singh, ACP, said the man committed suicide in a horrific way. ”Last night, when he was alone at home, he first tied his neck with a rope and then climbed the water tank atop of his house. He jumped from there and died on the spot. His family found his body hanging,” the ACP added. The deceased’s father, Ashok Gupta, said Sunny got married to Ishita in 2010 but his wife and mother-in-law used to quarrel with Sunny, due to which Sunny slipped into depression. The police said the couple had been living separately from parents at BRS Nagar for the past four years.
On a statement of the deceased’s father, the police have registered a case under Section 306 of the IPC against his wife and mother-in-law.
Woman dies under mysterious conditions
A 42-year-old woman died under mysterious circumstances at her home in Nurpur Beit on Sunday morning. The deceased has been identified as Paramjit Kaur, wife of Gurmel Singh. The investigating officer, ASI Somnath from the Ladowal police station, said the woman was working in kitchen when she suddenly fell down. Her relatives took her to the the DMCH where the doctors declared her dead on arrival. There were rumours that the woman had consumed some poisonous substance to commit suicide. However, the ASI said the family suspected that the woman died of a cardiac arrest. The police would send viscera to a laboratory to find the exact cause of her death. The police have initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPc.
35-year-old man found dead in house
A 35-year-old man was found dead in his house at Bhagwan Chowk under mysterious conditions on Sunday. He had reportedly died a few days ago. When the body started reeking of smell, the neighbours informed the police. The police managed to enter the house and found the man, identified as Deepak Malhotra, lying dead. He was living alone in the house. The police said post-mortem and viscera report only would clear the cause of death. The police have denied foul play.
