The managing director (MD) of Taipan Traders, Industrial Area, that earlier had dealership of Mercedes, has been booked for cheating Rs 69 lakh from a retired Brigadier based in Jalandhar on the pretext of delivering him two Mercedes cars.
The police said Manjit Singh Bala had been booked on the complaint of MPS Bajwa who complained that he had placed an order for two Mercedes and made a payment of Rs 69 lakh through Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) from a private bank in November, 2009.
Police sources said that in 2010, the showroom was shut and the owner, Bala, refused to deliver Mercedes to Bajwa despite repeated requests made by him.
After failing to get the vehicles, Bajwa gave a police complaint in 2014, which was being investigated by Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of the UT police. Following the investigation, a case under Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against Bala at the Sector 17 police station. The matter is under investigation.
