Notorious drug smuggler held near border

The BSF has nabbed a 22-year-old notorious Punjab-based drug smuggler, Joginder Singh, who was allegedly involved in smuggling of heroin.
Officials said today that a special operation was launched with the assistance of the Sriganganagar district police yesterday and the team apprehended Joginder alias Jeeta alias Shammi of Jhugge village in Ferozepur from a house in Rawla Mandi.
The team also recovered two Pakistani SIMs, four Indian SIMs, a mobile phone and Rs61,000 from his possession.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Jeeta had been staying at the house of his maternal uncle, Balwant Singh, since April 6. Balwant was allegedly involved in the smuggling of 21 kg heroin from Border outpost Soorma in Gharsana (Sriganganagar) on the intervening night of November 23/24, 2014.
Joginder was wanted in a case of smuggling of 25 kg of heroin on February 17, which was seized by the Punjab Police. He reportedly has links with Pakistan-based smugglers.
The place of his arrest is approximately 16-17 Kms from India-Pakistan international border.
Notably Punjab police had seized 25 kg of heroin from Haste Kalan border village in Fazilka district on Feb 18. The consignment was recovered from Gurcharan Singh of Hazara Singhwala village in Ferozepur district, he got it from Pakistan. The police had recovered three Pakistani SIM cards, three mobile phones and one Polo car bearing registration number PB 62A 5601.The consignment came though the Fazilka border out post (BOP) gate number 3 on February 17 night and it was allegedly smuggled by Lahore-based Imtiaz. Gurcharan’s accomplices Joginder Singh, Rinku and Baldev Singh had reportedly escaped.
Rawla police station incharge Prahlad Rai Mehrada said Joginder Singh has been booked under Section 3 of the Official Secrecy Act 1923 as he was suspected of passing vital information to neighbouring Pakistan; he will be dispatched to Jaipur for high level interrogation. OC
