Patwari lands in VB net while taking Rs 20K bribe

The Vigilance Bureau today nabbed a patwari at Tohra village while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a villager for transferring his ancestral land in his name.

According to the VB, Talwinder Singh was arrested following a complaint filed by one Harvinder Singh, who alleged that the revenue official had demanded a sum of Rs 20,000 from him for transferring his ancestral land in his name, which at present stood in the name of his mother. He alleged that the patwari had demanded a sum of Rs 30,000 from him and a deal was struck for Rs 20,000. He had paid Rs 5,000 in advance and the rest was to be paid today. 

On the basis of the complaint, the VB sleuths laid a trap and nabbed the patwari while accepting the bribe. The bribe money of Rs 20,000 was recovered from his possession.

Later, a case under Sections 7, 13 (2) and 88 of the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against him.
