Sangrur, March 21
Sherpur police have registered a fraud case against a Dhuri resident for the misappropriation of procured stock of rice and paddy stock worth lakhs and started further investigations.
Sources said Pungrain had allotted 23,388 quintals of paddy to Suresh Kumar of Dhuri during the financial year of 2015-16. The authorities had directed him to complete the milling of paddy till March 31, 2016 and deliver the rice. But when Suresh failed to comply in the stipulated time, the authorities got suspicious and conducted a physical verification of all the stock.
During verification, officials found 2038.12 quintals of paddy and 1103.46 of paddy missing from the premises of Suresh.
District Food and Civil Supply Controller (DFSC) wrote to Suresh for clarification but when he did not get a reply, he wrote to SSP, Sangrur on November 17, 2016 for registration of a case against the accused.
The SSP ordered an inquiry and during the probe, the police too found the stock missing.
Finally, an inquiry report was sent to Sherpur police station, where case under Section 420 of the IPC was registered against Suresh last night.
“We have registered a case and started investigations assess the loss,“ said IO Jarnail Singh.
