The Rajouri police, under the supervision of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Mohammad Suleman Choudhry, have launched a special drive against drug menace in the district.
In the past one month, the Rajouri police have arrested 14 drug peddlers and recovered cannabis and intoxicant capsules from their possession.
On February 3 night, inspector Darshan Singh, Station House Officer, Dharamshal police station, intercepted two drug peddlers on the Jammu-Poonch highway. On frisking the accused, the police recovered 224 intoxicant capsules from them and took the duo into custody.
The police have booked the drug peddlers under Sections 8, 21 and 22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and started investigation.
Drug peddlers have been targeting college and schoolstudents in Rajouri town and other areas.
During meetings with the district administration, especially with the Rajouri SSP, civil society members had expressed concern over rise in drug addiction in the district and had appealed to the police to take action against those involved in the sale of drugs.
