Gurgaon, January 19
Almost a year after theft at Sidhant Teerth Jain Mandir, Shikohpur, came to light, the police have recovered 25 out of 46 antique idols worth crores of rupees and arrested three accused, including a junk dealer.
The breakthrough in the case followed the interrogation of one of the accused brought here on production warrant from Rajasthan. The police identified five other accused involved in the theft.
The police had announced a reward of Rs1 lakh on any information about the accused.
On December 30, 2014, thieves stole 46 antique idols and also broke open two donation boxes containing Rs25,000.
On the complaint of Basank Kumar Jain, manager of the temple, the police had lodged a case of burglary. and it has been possible to solve the case only after the gang leader was arrested by Rajashtan police.
The key accused identified as Saieful, native of Nadiya in West Bengal, was nabbed by the Rajasthan Police. The Gurgaon police got him here and, following his lead, they arrested his accomplice, Sagar Chaudhary alias Jahangeer alias Bahadur alias Gajni.
Saieful reportedly told the police he and his accomplices had sold off articles like Ashtdhatu Chattar to a junk dealer, identified as Mohammad Irsad, in Ghaziabad. The Gurgaon police have arrested him and recovered Rs 50,000 earned after selling the idols.
The police recovered 25 idols and Rs25,000 from them. — TNS
