Ludhiana, July 12
Members of a Youth Congress faction allegedly fired shots into the air during a clash with another faction in Vishwakarma Colony here late last night.
The Model Town police today registered a case against seven persons under Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 323, 506, 148, 149 and 427 of the IPC and Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act. They were identified as Sahil Kapoor, Harry Pandit, Khushwant Narang, Pankaj Gogna, Vicky Sheera, Sukhdeep Khira and Atul Thakur. Over 20 unidentified persons were also booked.
The warring factions are led by Sahil Kapoor and Gurjeet Singh. The former had lost to Gurjeet last year in the elections to the post of Youth Congress president of Atam Nagar constituency.
Last night, 25-30 youths belonging to Kapoor’s group gathered outside the house of Gurjeet’s brother. Some of them allegedly fired four shots into the air before fleeing.
Station House Officer Surinder Chopra said all accused were absconding.
