Gurmel Singh, SHO Sadar Khanna, said Satwant Singh of Saian Khurd village complained that Manpreet Singh of Rabbon Newi village lured him by claiming that one of his close relatives, Gurmeet Singh, was a sub-inspector and would help him in getting job in the police force. They allegedly took Rs 50,000 from Satwant and demanded Rs 1 lakh after the recruitment.

Even after two months, they failed to provide him a job and did not return his money. Satwant and Manpreet were classmates at JNU School Faror, near Khamano. A case has been registered against Gurmeet and Manpreet under Sections 419, 420, 467 and 171, IPC. The police had arrested Gurmeet and recovered a police uniform and Rs 45,000 from his possession. Gurmeet had been sent to police remand for two days. The police were conducting raids to arrest Manpreet.
