The vigilance cell of the Uttarakhand Police arrested Village Development Officer Prem Shankar Gangwar red-handedly while he was accepting bribe here today. A case was registered against him and he was sent to jail.
Director of Vigilance Cell Ashok Kumar told mediapersons at the vigilance office here today that Govind Mandal, a resident of Raj Nagar, Sitarganj in Udham Singh Nagar, had filed a complaint stating that Gangwar was demanding a bribe of Rs 5,000 from his mother Namita Mandal for releasing the second installment of money under Indira Awas Yojna.
ASP Shridhar Prasad Badola instructed Inspector Mohan Chander Durgapal to investigate the matter. Durgapal laid a trap after it was confirmed that Gangwar had demanded a bribe to release the second installment of money. The police team led by Durgapal, Inspector Uttam Singh arrested the accused officer red-handedly while accepting Rs 5,000 as bribe from the complainant.
Meanwhile, Ashok Kumar announced a reward of Rs 5,000 to the police team for solving the case. He appealed to people to immediately report to the vigilance cell if any government official demands a bribe for doing his job.
He said people could register their complaints on toll free number (18001806666) or log on to www.vigilance.uk.gov.in. He ensured people that strict action would be taken against corrupt government officials, and the identity of complaints would be kept confidential.
