Wheels of SUV stolen

Chandigarh: Four wheels of a Toyota Fortuner parked in Sector 33 was stolen on Tuesday night. According to the police, thieves managed to steal all the wheels and placed bricks under the SUV. The incident came to light in the morning. The police were informed about the incident who have initiated an investigation into the matter. — TNS

Labourer falls from building, dies

Chandigarh: A 40-year-old labourer died after he accidently fell from the first-floor of a building in Sector 15 on Wednesday. Sources said the victim, identified as Gulab Singh (40), was a painter. He was working in the building when the incident took place. A passerby informed the police and the victim was rushed to the Government Multi- Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, where doctors declared him brought dead. The victim was a resident of Mauli Jagran. The police have initiated an investigation at the Sector 11 police station.— TNS

Man booked for submitting forged document  

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Police have booked a Mohali resident for submitting a forged document during the recruitment of Food Supplies Officer.  Rajdeep Kaur, Deputy Secretary, Food and Supplies, had complained to the police that Surinder Singh, a resident of Phase X, Mohali, had submitted a fake graduation certificate at the time of the recruitment. A case has been registered against the accused under Sections 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating) and 471 (using as genuine as forged) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Sector 39 police station. — TNS

Liquor seized 

Panchkula: In a bid to stop the trade of illicit liquor, the Panchkula police nabbed 12 people with over 1,500 bottles of liquor and 17 of beer on Wednesday. The accused have been booked under the Excise act. The police also arrested 11 gamblers and recovered a total of Rs 1.36 lakh from them. The CM flying squad caught a truck with 800 boxes of illicit liquor.— TNS
