A woman was arrested in Doda today on the charge of murdering her husband and father-in-law after plotting the double murder with her alleged paramour.
The incident took place at Barri Marmat, about 50 km from the district headquarters, on Monday night, the police said. The throats of Sham Lal (45) and his father Sunito Ram (82) were slit with a sharp-edged weapon.
In preliminary investigation, the police noted that Reenu Devi (40), wife of Sham Lal, had an illicit relationship with Om Prakash and they hatched a conspiracy with a few others to eliminate her husband.
“We received a call about the incident, after which we visited the spot and launched a manhunt. The bodies were concealed in land owned by Om Parkash at Barri Marmat,” said Farooq Ahmed, Assar Station House Officer.
“We have arrested main accused Reenu Devi and Des Raj, brother of her paramour. A manhunt has been launched for the other accused, Om Prakash, Suram Chand, Girdhari Lal and Sanjay Kumar,” he added.
Sham Lal had contested the last parliamentary elections, the police said. Prior to that, he was a Special Police Officer.
The bodies were handed over to the next of kin of the deceased for last rites after legal formalities and postmortem examination. A case was registered and further investigation was on.
