Tibetan spiritual leader and Nobel laureate Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso on Tuesday said the world was passing through an emotional crisis due to materialistic development.
While rejecting the feudal system, the Dalai Lama said the democracy gives right to all for evolving a peaceful environment.
The Tibetan spiritual leader said this while addressing a small gathering of monks, nuns and locals at Jive-tsal, the Dalai Lama’s palace in Leh district of the Ladakh region.
“With the shifting of paradigm from the feudal system to democracy, it is necessary to bring change in our monastic system as well,” he said, adding, “the feudal system garners hate and violence while democracy gives right to all for developing a peaceful environment.”
Talking about the current global situation, he said with a rise in materialistic development, the world is passing through an emotional crisis. “In this respect, all world religions should stress spreading the qualities of love, peace, forgiveness and compassion,” he said.
The Tibetan spiritual leader said the 21st century generation should read the scriptures and themselves look for the relevance of 2,600-year-old Buddhist religion in today’s world.
Earlier, the Dalai Lama was accorded a grand traditional reception on his arrival at Leh.
He was received by J&K Legislative Council Chairman Haji Inayat Ali, Ladakh MP Thupstan Tsewang, Leh MLA Nawang Rigzin Jora, Nubra MLA Deldan Namgyal, executive councillors of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh, and other senior officers of district administration and police department.
He said there was a need to develop love and kindness along with materialistic growth. This quality should be developed mutually by all religions of the world.
Talking about the recent conference of Indian Himalayan Buddhist Communities held at Delhi, he appreciated the decision taken during the conference for importance of converting the monasteries into learning centres.
