Former Minister and Congress leader Shashi Tharoor today said that with progress of time, people have started demystifying the life of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation.
He said this after releasing a book titled "The Secret Diary of Kasturba", authored by Nilima Dalmia Adhar, at a glittering function attended by notable personalities. Kasturba, wife of the Mahatma, was claimed by the author to have played a key role in soaking up pressure and the void created in the immediate family due to alleged neglect and oversight of basic familial issues.
Tharoor said society has become progressively critical and intolerant. He said that the contexts and connotations of issues and values keep shifting with march of times.
He hailed the Mahatma as an iconic world leader who shaped India's freedom struggle to its logical conclusion. Adverting to the leader's human frailties referred to by the author, he said that the Mahatma apparently did have eccentricities. However, he rationalized it saying great leaders are focused on larger issues and goals.
