Delhi Government today said it will issue a notification to change the land use to mixed along 351 roads soon after it gets Supreme Court (SC) approval, thereby legalising commercial establishments in the areas falling on these routes.

“We have submitted a notification copy in the SC seeking its approval. Once the SC allows it, Delhi Government will issue the notification immediately for these 351 roads,” said Delhi's Urban Development Minister Satyendra Jain.

Jain said that the government has appointed two prominent lawyers to ensure its case on the sealing issue is presented properly, as was demanded by BJP and Congress.

He underlined that Delhi Development Authority should also appoint someone of the likes of Harish Salve for the case in the SC.

The AAP government has stated that no sealing has taken place on 351 roads so far, which BJP has been targeting claiming owing to the delay in notifying the roads. Traders in those areas are forced to bear the brunt of sealing.

The development came when traders in Delhi have declared a shutdown of all the city markets on March 28 against the ongoing sealing drive by BJP-ruled municipal corporations carried out on the directions of an SC-monitored committee in the capital. Traders under the banner of the Confederation of All India Traders have given a call for a mega rally on Wednesday, March 28. – TNS
