Bulletproof jackets to make police head and shoulders above criminals

For the security of Delhi Police personnel combating sometimes with terrorists and criminals, an important decision has been taken. The force will soon buy 2,450 bulletproof jackets. One jacket will cost Rs 1 lakh and will be available by April.

According to a senior police official, these jackets are very effective and if a bullet is fired from five meter distance from a Carbine and MP-5 weapon, it would not affect. Not only this, even 7.62 caliber SHR and Bolt Action Rifle, from the AK series rifle, if fired from 10 meters, would not have much impact. Similarly, if a bullet is fired from 10 meters from Insas M-193 rifle, there will be no impact on the person wearing it.

It is to be noted that this jacket will protect the police personnel from the front and back side completely just leaving the collar bone visible for any impact. Moreover, the jacket will have no effect of ultra violet rays. The jackets will be available in standard, large and extra large sizes and nearly 90,000 police personnel will benefit from this.

Earlier, the police were managing with just 300 bulletproof jackets and they too were available only to the New Delhi District, Special Cell and Crime Branch policemen and officers.

Now additional 2,450 jackets will be available for the police personnel deployed on patrolling duty or to tackle any untoward incident.

According to a senior police officer, “The objective behind buying the bulletproof jackets is that during the challenging period and security arrangement in Delhi, they could be provided to the patrolling cops so that in any untoward incident, police personnel don’t get critically injured or lose their life. The old jackets with the police for years together have become outdated besides weighing around ten kilos. In any emergency, cop reflexes and movement get slow after wearing these jackets.”
