City’s sex ratio at birth improved in 2015

Delhi’s sex ratio at birth improved by two points with 895 females per thousand males in 2015 as compared to the previous year, as per the Annual Report on Registration of Births and Deaths in Delhi for 2015 released here today.

The report, prepared by the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, reveals that the average number of births per day in Delhi during 2015 stood at 1,025 and average of deaths per day was 341. 

So the net natural increase in population in the city remained 684 per day and 2.50 lakh in a year. The remaining increase in the population of Delhi the report attributed to migration.

Releasing the report, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said infant mortality rate in Delhi decreased from 25 per thousand live birth in 2012 to 24 in 2013 and then 20 in 2014 as per Sample Registration System (SRS). 

The institutional births in the national Capital saw an increase from 81.75 per cent in 2013 to 82.83 per cent in 2014 and then 84.41 per cent in 2015 and of 3.16 lakh institutional births, about 2.12 lakh (67.2 per ecnt) births occurred in government hospitals in 2015 as against 2.06 lakh (66.4 per cent) births the earlier year. 

Sisodia said the total number of births registered in Delhi had increased from 3,73,693 in 2014 to 3,74,012 in 2015. The average number of births per day worked out to 1,025 in 2015 as compared to 1,024 in 2014. Out of the total births registered, 1.97 lakh (52.7 per cent) were male and 1.77 lakh (47.3 per cent) were female. 

Age-group of the mother at the time of delivery reveals that in maximum (43.97 per cent) cases it was 20-24 years followed by 38 per cent cases in 25-29 years group and in 15.3 per cent cases the age of mother was more than 30 years.
