In violation of the Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act (ITPA), the Delhi Police has allegedly “failed” to seal brothels on the GB Road from where several minors were rescued during the past three years in the Capital.

This has prompted Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal to allege that the certain police personnel are hand in gloves with the brothel owners and helping in running these brothels.

Pointing out that same, the DCW today issued notice to the police seeking reasons why brothels from where minor girls were rescued have not been sealed in the GB Road area till date and asked it to provide complete details of the status of rescued children within seven days failing which will invite action.

“The DCW in coordination with police has rescued several minors from GB Road in the past three years but no brothel from where a minor was rescued has been closed down. We have asked to provide information within a week else SHO will be liable for further legal action as per the law,” said Maliwal.

In a notice to the SHO, Kamla Market, Maliwal sought to have details within week, by June 15, about the number of minor girls rescued from brothels on GB Road since January 15, 2000, and details of brothels closed under provisions of ITPA till date.

As per the provisions of the Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act, each building from where a minor subjected to trafficking is rescued is mandated to be sealed by the authorities. The law mandates the police station concerned to communicate the details of such rescues to the SDM concerned.

“Whether the detail of each rescue was shared with the SDM concerned and details of brothels closed under provisions of the ITPA till date and the current status of each brothel (including date of closure, reason for closure, stay from courts if any),” read the notice. — TNS
