Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ajay Maken said the Congress party’s slogan for the MCD elections would be “Toot Gayi Vikas Ki Dore, Vapas Chalo Congress Ki Or”, as the people are fed up with the 10-year rule of the BJP in municipal corporations while the two-year rule of the Aam Aadmi Party government has witnessed a total stagnation in development works.
Maken said the Congress will select the candidates for the MCD elections after taking feedback from booth-level party workers of prospective candidates in each ward.
Announcing detailed programmes of the Congress for the forthcoming elections to the municipal corporations, Maken said bugle has been sounded for the MCD elections, and the Delhi Election Commission should immediately announce the women and reserve wards so that the elections could be held on time.
Addressing a press conference, Maken said 18 observers have been appointed for all the 14 districts and 103 observers for all the 70 Assembly constituencies.
After meeting with the observers, the Congress has started the process of inviting applications of candidates for the elections. Along with the application and bio-data, the applicants will also submit a list of five Congress workers per polling booth. They would submit the application at the Control Room to be set up at the DPCC office, and the candidates would be selected after talking to booth-level workers and leaders. Last date for submission of applications would be a week from the final declaration of seats to be reserved.
He also said the Congress will publish a chargesheet against the ruling AAP government, and the 10-year misrule of the BJP in all the three MCDs.
He said two committees have been formed under Farhad Suri, Leader of the Opposition in the South Delhi Municipal Corporation and chief spokesperson Sharmistha Mukherjee, to prepare the chargesheets against the MCDs and the government, respectively.
He also said from February 4 to 16, the Congress will hold conventions in all the 14 districts in which the chargesheets prepared against the BJP rule in the MCD and the AAP rule will be discussed in detail, so that Congress workers could go round houses to explain the failures of both the parties.
