CPI protests, demands answers from govt on demonetisation

The Communist Party of India (CPI) Delhi State today staged a protest against Modi-led Centre’s demonetisation drive demanding an account of how far the move has helped the government in checking fake currency business, corruption and terrorism in the country.
The speakers claimed that the banning of the Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes led to the biggest-ever retrenchment of the world with the poor left to fend for themselves and farmers compelled to throw away their production.
The protest at Jantar Mantar was addressed by CPI leaders and members of Parliament, including Atul Kumar Anjan , CPI national secretary, Dhirendra Sharma, secretary, Prof. Dinesh Varshney, assistant secretary CPI Delhi State, among others.
The CPI has been organising protests since January 3 under the “Hisab do - Jawab do” campaign all over the nation under the aegis of the party’s local committees, read a statement issued by the Delhi unit of the party.
They demanded answers from the “BJP-RSS” led government on the demonetisation issue pertaining to black money recovered, jobs lost, dip in production, reasons for not abolishing the withdrawal limits apart from seeking to know the rise in non-performing assets, whether or not fake currency and terrorism have stopped.
CPI leaders condemned the BJP government accusing it of looting the common and poor people money by imposing demonetisation in favour of capitalists while demanding from the government an assurance that the money deposited in that banks will not be given to capitalist and crony capitalists.
