The Congress today launched an online membership campaign and former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh became the first to take membership when he and his wife Gursharan Kaur were enrolled as party members by Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Ajay Maken at Dr Singh's residence. The former Prime Minister's membership was renewed after five years.

Maken said the membership drive through "smart channels" would give easy access to people who want to become members of the Congress in a transparent manner. Now, there are four methods of becoming a member. The online drive would be in addition to the traditional form of becoming a member by filling in the form after collecting it from the party office. The drive was primarily intended to enrol lakhs of young people, who want to join the party, he said.

Maken, terming it a "historic membership drive", said anybody could become a Congress member now through website, mobile App, Facebook or by filling in the forms in a traditional manner. The membership form from the website could be accessed from www.inc.in where the 'apply' section allows new member application while the 'already a member' section allows the existing members to enrol new members.

He said application for membership through Mobile App With INC was available for download on both the Android (Play Store) and iOS (App Store), with Windows coming soon. Mobile App would support new membership application as well as the option of enrolling others.
