The standing committee of East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) today passed a resolution on free parking facilities at private establishments, including malls and hospitals under its jurisdiction. The proposal was moved by Leader of House Ram Narayan Dubey.
The EDMC is the second civic body to go for free parking with the South Delhi Municipal Corporation being the other that has banned paid parking at hospitals and malls.
"There were complaints of uncontrolled parking fees being charged by hospitals and malls in the municipal area. So a need to regulate them was felt," said standing committee chairperson Lata Gupta while adding even as there are just 4-5 malls and 8-9 large private hospitals under EDMC, all such units would be hence regulated by the civic body.
The municipal corporation gives FAR relaxation to basement parking facilities. But over a period of time complaints of varying charges being realised by the users came, added Gupta.
