The newly elected members of the Delhi University's Executive Council Dr. Abha Dev Habib and Dr. Ajay K. Bhagi, along with 21 members-elect of the Academic Council have asked the Vice-Chancellor to ensure that the requisite AICTE approval for the B.Tech courses introduced in 2013 be acquired before the last date.
They have taken up the pending issue of seeking All India Council for Technical Education's approval for the B. Tech programmes that Delhi University is running in a joint letter, said DUTA president Nandita Narain.
She said onus of seeking AICTE approvals is on the DU administration, but the university has been trying to dodge its responsibility and put the ball in the court of individual colleges.
Adding that the VC has asked colleges to complete the formalities for seeking approvals while the Ministry of Human Resource and Development is aware that the DU VC has not taken any step to initiate the complex and time-consuming formalities involved in seeking approvals.
"Seven months have passed since July, when the UGC had allowed the university to continue with B.Tech programmes in five disciplines with the express condition that AICTE-UGC approvals had to be taken; however the VC has chosen to do nothing about it," she said.
The DUTA hit out at the VC's inaction on an issue that threatens to affect the future of approximately 6,000 students. "This is a case of gross dereliction of duty. Through his repeated attempts to evade responsibility, he has yet again proved that he is not fit to continue in office," said DUTA secretary H. Khanna.
