Girl dies as car crashes into tree

New Delhi, March 20

A 16-year-old girl died and her juvenile friend was injured when the Maruti Zen car he was driving banged into a tree at south Delhi's Vasant Vihar locality last night.

The police have not disclosed the names of the victims as they are minors. They lived with their families at Air India Colony in Vasant Vihar and are neighbours. 

The incident took place at about 12.15 am, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (South District) Prem Nath. The car belongs to the 17-year-old boy's father. He had taken the keys from the house and picked up the girl. He was driving the car, while the girl was sitting on the co-driver's seat. The car was probably being driven at a high speed and it banged into a tree at Paschimi Marg in Vasant Vihar, according to Nath.

The police were informed about the incident at about 12.24 am. The victims were taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre in south Delhi, where the girl was declared dead. 

Teen killed in accident 

A 17-year-old girl died and her boyfriend was injured when their moped hit a stationary bus in east Delhi's Pandav Nagar on Thursday. 

The deceased has been identified as Kusum Jha, who hailed from Bihar and lived with her relatives in Mandawali, east Delhi. The police said the incident occurred when she was travelling with Raju (26), a resident of Mayur Vihar.

At around 4 pm, a call was made to the police control room reporting an accident near Akshardham Temple.

A Delhi Transport Corporation bus had rammed into a cluster bus. The buses were then made to park on the roadside as staff of a Police Control Room van were attending to the calls.

"Soon, a moped coming from Nizamuddin rammed into the cluster bus. Raju was driving the moped, while Kusum was riding pillion" a police officer said. Raju and Kusum were rushed to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, where Kusum was declared brought dead.
