The Food and Civil Supplies Department of the Delhi Government has initiated suspension of licence of two fair price shops that were found closed on working days in the Burari area, North Delhi.

In the matter, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Imran Hussain, who personally visited the sites, today ordered action against dealers of two fair price shops which were found locked during a surprise inspection conducted to check the compliance of guidelines and norms by FPS dealers for delivery of specified food articles to the ration card holders.

Hussain also directed Commissioner of the Food and Civil Supplies to seek explanation of Food and Supply officer concerned, Food and Supply inspector and Assistant Commissioner over lack of proper supervision and initiate disciplinary proceedings, including suspension against erring officials.

“The shops were sealed and further action such as suspension of licence as per rules is being taken,” said an official.

The minister also directed the department to ensure that all the prescribed information is displayed on the boards of all fair price shops, adding that field inspection in the coming days will be more frequent and stepped up.
