LG reviews mobile App for property theft cases

Chairing a crime review meeting of the Delhi Police at Raj Niwas, Lt. Governor Anil Baijal today reviewed the mobile and web applications for first information report of motor vehicle theft and other property theft cases and asked the police to publicise remedial measures and generate awareness about them.

Baijal asked the police to have a robust mechanism to get feedback of the App regarding its working besides making this App more user-friendly. He advised the Commissioner of Police to develop a system of documenting best practices in all operational areas so that institutional memory is strengthened.

The LG stressed the need for public participation, encouraging community policing through the Eyes and Ears scheme vital for crime prevention.

The objective of this App is immediate online lodging/downloading of FIR for the property stolen in Delhi through web or mobile. This facilitates investigating officer to complete investigation steps and documentation on time and results in early disposal of cases to reduce pendency in police stations and courts. This App is citizen-friendly as people need not visit police station to lodge FIR nor wait to receive its copy.

In the meeting, attended by all high level officials, the need was felt for the police to publicise some remedial measures such as vehicle not to be left unattended without locking the ignition and removing the key, parking in a well-lit area, lock all doors, activate anti-theft devices, packages or valuables to be kept out of sight, etc. This type of awareness shall be helpful in reducing motor vehicle theft and other property theft.
