NBCC, CPWD to redesign plans

The NBCC and CPWD will rework the design and plans for the remaining redevelopment of the seven south Delhi colonies after the Delhi HC ordered an interim stay on any further uprooting of trees till July 4.

The NBCC has already shown interest for the acquisition of tree transplantation equipment and for engaging services of trained professional entities in this respect. Further, citizens’ groups will be invited to suggest where transplanted trees will be planted, said Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra.

A meeting in the regard was today chaired by Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri, discussing various issues relating to redevelopment of seven general pool residential accommodation  colonies in the particular context of felling of trees. The meeting was also attended by LG Anil Baijal, Additional Secretary of the ministry Manoj Kumar, DDA Vice Chairman Uday Pratap Singh, CMD of the NBCC Dr Anoop Kumar Mittal, Director General of the CPWD Abhai Sinha, Special DG of the CPWD Prabhakar Singh.

Based on a presentation made in MoHUA on Jan 9, it was decided to plant over million trees in different parts of Delhi: NBCC (25,000), CPWD (50,000), DDA (10 lakh), and DMRC (20,000). These trees  must be of 8-12 feet height and the planting will be completed in three months.

Environmental and related clearances are given on the recommendations of the city’s Forest Department and specific ones of the Enviroment Minister Imran Hussain. Meanwhile, LG has been advised to form an experts’ group for on environmental issues. — TNS
