New Delhi, December 29
A seven-member delegation, comprising residents and artists of Kathputli Colony joined by activists of the National Federation of Indian Women and the National Alliance of People's Movements, today urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to accord 'Heritage Artists Village' status to Kathputli Colony, home to puppeteers, dancers, singers and folk artists in West Delhi’s Shadipur area.
The delegation, led by CPI leader D Raja along with activist Annie Raja and renowned theatre personality Arvind Gaur, met the PM and submitted a memorandum of demands in this regard.
Kathputli Colony happens to be the first slum to be selected by the Delhi Development Authority for in-situ redevelopment in 2014 as part of Master Plan of Delhi 2012. Since then, the area has been at the centre of controversy after families were shifted to a transit camp.
