Slogans on hunger never raised, claims ABVP

Slamming Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNUSU) president Kanhaiya Kumar over his post-bail speech, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) today alleged that JNUSU president "did not raise" slogans on freedom from hunger or interference in university affairs during the February 9 event on campus.
The speech that he delivered after his release from Tihar Jail on Thursday was full of "rhetoric and sham", said the JNUSU joint secretary Saurabh Sharma.
"Azadi from hunger or interference was not the slogan raised ever on campus during February 9 event. It's a ploy to dilute it by de-contextualising its use and distract from the core issue so that the Left bastion remains secure after a short tremor," he said.
The right wing ABVP asked if Kanhaiya will "criticize and disassociate" from DSU's posters on campus which demand secession of Kashmir, Nagaland and Manipur.
"Nivedita Menon in her lecture has said that 'India is illegally occupying Kashmir' and 'India's imperialism and exploitation in Kashmir'. We demand that a resolution must be brought in JNUSU condemning such statements and demanding an apology from DSU and Menon. We promise to vote in favour of it," ABVP said in a statement.
On the other side, the Left-dominant JNUSU continued its call to students for joining the movement demanding the release of Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya.
