Woman found hanging; in-laws blamed

The body of a 28-year-old married woman was found hanging in south Delhi's Katwariya Sarai. Her family members alleged that she was tortured and murdered by her husband and in-laws, police said.

For a few hours the main road of Qutab Institutional area was jammed by the residents of Katwariya Sarai. They wanted a probe into the case and the persons involved to be arrested. 

The deceased has been identified as Anita Kataria. Her body was found by her husband Ricky Kataria in the morning.

Anita's father-in-law is posted as a jail superintendent in Tihar Jail, while Ricky owns a taxi stand. Anita and Ricky have been married for seven years and have two children.

Meanwhile, Anita's family alleged that she was "mentally and physically tortured" by her husband and that he killed her and was trying to pass the death as suicide, said a senior police officer.

A social media post from Anita's cousin said, "She has been mentally as well as physically tortured. But being an Indian girl, she wanted to be with her husband. She wanted everything to be normal but she never thought that she will be killed by the person whom she loved".

Police are awaiting the autopsy report.

Five-year-old girl sexually assaulted

A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 32-year-old drunken man roaming around in Haiderpur village where the girl was playing, police said today.

The incident was reported when her mother was working at home. As she came out to check on her daughter, she could not find her. She was told by a passerby that a girl is lying in the nearby bushes, said a senior police officer.

The drunken man kidnapped her and then sexually assaulted her and left her in the bushes. The accused is absconding and the police are on the lookout for him. 

When the girl was found, she was rushed to a hospital where doctors told her parents that she had been sexually assaulted. A case was registered under section 376 (rape) of the IPC and the relevant sections of POCSO, police said.

Karkardooma shootout gangster nabbed

The Crime Branch has succeeded in apprehending a notorious gangster Mohammad Azeem Ahmed, 29, who was wanted in the sensational Karkardooma Court shootout and also in a gruesome murder of a trader in PS Seelampur. Besides, another blind murder case of UP has also been worked out. A reward of Rs 50,000 was declared on his arrest in the Seelampur case. 

An incident of indiscriminate firing upon an undertrial prisoner took place inside the Karkardooma Court premises. In this sensational incident, one Delhi Police Head Constable Ram Kumar was killed, whereas three other persons, including the undertrial prisoner, were grievously hurt. 

Four juveniles were apprehended on the spot and later, the police arrested five other persons involved in this crime, but the main conspirator was absconding. 

Kidnapped bridal make-up artist rescued, five held 

With the arrests of all five kidnappers, the West District police solved a sensational case of abduction for ransom. 

Abhishek, 23, a high-end bridal make-up artist had a beauty parlour in Janak Puri. He was called in the Dwarka area for a bridal make-up and thereafter he was reported missing and his mobile phone was also found switched off. His car was found parked at IGI Airport parking. 

Later, a ransom call of Rs 2 crore was received on the mobile number of his mother. Immediately, the Janak Puri police started the investigation. 

Two more ransom calls were received on the mobile phone of his mother.

Sensing the gravity, a joint team of the Crime Branch and local police was constituted and after an elaborate operation, the victim was rescued from the house owned by the accused Vinod. To misguide the police, abductors were making telephonic calls from different places in Kanpur, Lucknow, whereas they kept the victim in a village of the District Hardoi, UP.
