New Delhi, June 27
A 26-year-old woman and her lover allegedly murdered her husband in east Delhi’s New Ashok Nagar locality on Thursday, when he learnt of their love affair, police sources said today.
The accused have been identified as Gulista and Rizwan. They were arrested for allegedly murdering Salim (35). His postmortem at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital in east Delhi confirmed strangulation as the cause of death, the police said.
Salim and Gulista stayed with their 11-year-old son Sameer and five-month-old daughter Sonam at a rented house in New Ashok Nagar, E-Block.
Police officials said Gulista had called up the police control room to report Salim’s death. “Gulista had said her husband had died and there were injury marks on his body,” a police officer said.
A police team found Salim’s body on a bed in the drawing room. “On inspection, scratch marks were found on his neck,” the officer stated.
Gulista said apart from her family, a relative was also staying in the house since the past five months. The relative had been identified 24-year-old Rizwan, who hails from Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district. “Gulista and Rizwan claimed that all of them had gone to sleep after having dinner late on Wednesday night. They admitted that the main door of the house was bolted from inside,” the officer said. Initially, they claimed that Salim was found dead on the bed when they woke up at 6 am.
Investigators, however, found that Gulista and Rizwan’s statements were not satisfactory. Investigations revealed that they were having an extra-marital affair. “As there was no forced entry into the house, we started suspecting Gulista or Rizwan for the murder. When confronted with facts, they confessed to killing Salim,” the officer added. —TNS
