Chandigarh, March 1
The library of the University School of Open Learning (USOL) started the data entry of their books 10 years ago to introduce the automation system for issuing and returning the books. It is still in the process of completing the project to facilitate the students. Reason: For the last 10 years, the department is asking for a data entry operator but the university authorities are not considering the demand and are asking the department to do so on their own.
The department bought the software 10 years ago for making the issuing and returning of books an automated process. But till date, the data of new books had only been entered and the old one is still in the pipeline. As a result, the automation project has been hanging fire for the past 10 years.
Interestingly, it is not only the administrative department which is ignoring the demand of the USOL library, even students who visit the library complain that for more than a month, they have been raising the issue of inadequate lighting in the hall, but no action has been taken so far. During a visit to the library, the students complained that the library does not have adequate light. USOL library in-charge Pardeep Kumar said, “The department was informed about the requirement for tube-lights which were non-functional. The department is also thinking of re-starting the journal section of the library which was discontinued by the department.”—TNS
