Swargashram (Pauri), July 13
As part of the midday fruit scheme, initiated by the Ganga Action Family and the Parmarth Niketan ashram, 51 schools and colleges in the state will be covered under this scheme by these groups for fruit sapling plantation.
The Ganga Action Family, in cooperation with the Swami Sukhdevanand Trust, will plant fruit saplings on the premises of these educational institutes in Pauri Garhwal, Tehri Garhwal, Dehradun, Haridwar and other districts of the state.
Around 124 fruit saplings were planted today at Darshan Mahavidyalya, Muni-Ki-Reti, by these two organisations. Teachers and students of Darshan Mahavidyalya and students of Shri Devi Sampad Adhyatm Sanskrit Mahavidyalya planted these saplings in and around the college premises.
Principal of the college Dr Radha Mohan Das and National Scheme Service project officer Acharya Ashish Juyal said apart from generating mass awareness of the environment conservation and the importance of fruits, this plantation drive would help in checking landslides that occurred near mountainous terrain of the school.
“The Ganga will also get purified with mass plantation adjacent to its embankment. Children will also get nutritious fruits to eat in schools and will know the importance of green cover,” said Dr Radha Mohan Das.
Environment coordinator of the Ganga Action Family and the Parmarth Niketan ashram Vineet Kumar said students who planted the saplings would themselves take care of these plants.
Saplings of mango, guava, litchi, amla, rudraksh, seeta, saraca asoca, jasmine and marigold were planted during the plantation drive.
Social activists Swecha Raj Bhandari from Nepal, Alison from the US, and Pallavi Sharma from Jabalpur also took part in the drive.
