Arshdeep, who appeared at a Sector 7 examination centre said, “The paper was certainly above the NCERT level. I missed some questions due to paucity of time but I am expecting to score 210 marks and am hopeful to get into an elite college.”

City-based IIT-JEE expert Kunal Singh said, “With six repeated questions in Physics section, four in chemistry and four in mathematics from previous year JEE papers, this year’s exam can be termed reasonably moderate for serious JEE aspirants. Although many questions were challenging, few questions were found repetitive, straight forward, conceptually efficient and quite factual in nature which will definitely lead to rise in score of candidates.”

He added that conceptual but easy physics followed by straight forward chemistry will shadow a bit calculative mathematics section which will help aspirants to secure a good score.

Notably, Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), held by the CBSE, is an all India common engineering entrance examination conducted for admission to various engineering colleges and courses all over the country. The test comprises of two stages - JEE (Main) and the JEE (Advanced). The exams are of the objective pattern. JEE (Advanced) is regarded internationally as one of the most challenging engineering admission tests.

Parents allege harassment by exam centre staff

The JEE (Main) was marred by allegations of harassment of some students by examination centre staff at atleast two locations in the city.

Talking to Chandigarh Tribune, educationist Seema Chawla said her son, who is hearing impaired, was not allowed to enter the examination centre at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 32, along with his scribe. She added that the CBSE has clearly mentioned that students with more than 40 per cent disability were allowed to use a scribe to write the exam. She added that she had to argue with the centre staff and show them several documents before they allowed her son to enter the examination centre along with his scribe.    Another parent Dilsher Singh said the staff at GMSSS-37 held back his daughter and about 12 other students for 15 minutes before allowing them entry into the centre. “This despite the fact that the students had their admit cards and Aadhar cards, as directed by the CBSE,” he said, complaining that apart from losing precious minutes, the students had to go through extreme stress during those 15 minutes, which disturbed their state of the mind ahead of an important examination.
