A total of 412 students were conferred degrees during the annual convocation and prize-distribution function of Guru Nanak National College, Doraha, at Dr Ishwar Singh Memorial Hall here today.
The chief guest on the occasion was war veteran and senior adviser to Chief Minister Capt Amrinder Singh Lt Gen Tajinder Singh Shergill (Retd). In his convocation address, the chief guest congratulated the degree holders. He exhorted them to touch the skies by the dint of their labour and hard work.
He said, “Knowledge is the keyword in the changing world order and it is with hard work, humility and honesty that the youth of the day can progress.” He asked the students to stay focused and explore their creativity to the maximum. He also congratulated the college management.
He offered floral tributes to founder President of the college Dr Ishwar Singh and also recalled his service to the institution.
A total of 412 students who were awarded degrees, 14 were of MA Punjabi, 43 of MCom, 11 of MA Political Science, 10 of MA (Sociology), two of MSc IT, 27 of BA Honors, 18 of PGDCA, 11 of BCA, 12 of BBA, 94 of Commerce, 33 of BSc and 137 of Humanities.
Students who had brought laurels for the institute in academics, sports and co-curricular activities were also felicitated. Amanjot Kaur, Mandeep Kaur and Reshma were awarded the roll of honour for standing first in Panjab University in certificate, diploma and advanced diploma courses, respectively. Isha Bakshi and Prabhjot Singh received the roll of honour for winning second positions in inter-varsity competitions in poem recitation and sketch a word competition, respectively. Komalpreet Kaur and Diksha Dhiman were honoured for winning gold medals in north-zone competitions. Ajay Pal Singh Gill was awarded the roll of honour for winning gold medal in Panjab University Air Rifle Shooting Competition. Iqbal Singh was honoured for his achievements in music. The award of the best student was conferred upon Mandeep Kaur.
College Principal Dr Narinder Singh Sidhu distributed the degrees and read out the annual report of the college. Roop Brar, President, College Managing Committee, welcomed the guests and college general secretary Harpratap Brar extended the vote of thanks. College magazine ‘UDAR’ was also released.
Former Transport Minister Tej Parkash Singh Kotli, Payal MLA Lakhvir Singh Lakha, Punjab Congress Committee General Secretary Bant Singh Daburjee and others were present.
