Patiala: The BE Mechanical Degree programme of Thapar University, Patiala, has received the prestigious ABET accreditation as a confirmation of meeting the Global Standard of Technical Education. The Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), Inc., is a non-governmental organisation that accredits post-secondary education programmes in “applied science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology”, which occurs mainly in the US, but also internationally. This is the first time that a BE Mechanical programme of any Indian university in North India has been accredited with the ABET. It is expected that the BE Mechanical graduates of Thapar University will have increased acceptability in global workplace, especially in multinational corporations, because ABET accreditation is recognised worldwide through international agreements, and in many other countries, where the national accrediting systems are based on the ABET model.
