Admission process gets under way in pvt schools

As the admission process of entry-level classes began today, parents of the wards were busy downloading forms for various convent and private schools of the city. The admission process for government schools too started today.
Last year’s data shows that there was a tough competition for private and missionary schools as there were approximately eight candidates against one seat. As against 1,400 seats in these schools, 11,000 applications were received last year.
One of city’s most sought after schools Vivek High School, Sector 38, has received 400 applications so far, while 10 registrations were done at Delhi Public School, Sector 40, on the first day today.
Other St. John’s High School, Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, Strawberry Fields High School, St Kabir Public School, all in Sector 26, are yet to gather the information regarding the submissions made today.
Notably, there are 73 private schools in the city, which cater to around 7,000 students. On the other hand, government schools in the city absorb around 5,000 students. Most of the schools have uploaded admission forms on their respective websites. The forms are also available at school receptions.
In view of many private schools having made Aadhaar number mandatory for applying for admission, the Chandigarh Parents' Association today gave a representation to the director, school education, UT, terming the demand illegal and contempt of the orders of the Supreme Court. Nitin Goyal, president, CPA, said the SC order, dated15 October, 2015, the Supreme Court has reiterated that, "We will also make it clear that the Aadhaar card Scheme is purely voluntary and it cannot be made mandatory till the matter is finally decided by this Court one way or the other.”
Goyal added that, "The CPA requested the DSE to immediately issue instructions to all schools, to stop this illegal demand and give publicity to the fact that enrolment for Aadhaar Card is voluntary, and not compulsory, otherwise I shall be restrained to initiate appropriate civil and contempt proceedings against you." According to sources in the education department, the same has been conveyed to the independent schools' association.
