At least 35 per cent candidates have missed the examination for the post of assistant professor as the recruiting agency – J&K Public Service Commission (JKPSC) – notified and hurriedly conducted the test on the same day.

The commission conducted the screening test for the posts of assistant professor (business administration) in the Higher Education Department on Sunday at 10 am, hours after the notice was published in newspapers.

The hurriedly conducted screening test raised questions as 264 candidates out of 700 missed the examination.

The officials said they had sent a notification to the Government Information Department for wide circulation in the media on November 17.

However, the notification dated November 17 was published in a local newspaper on Sunday i.e. November 27, in which the candidates were directed to download the admit cards from November 21 and the venue for their examination was given.

The candidates said they were surprised when they saw the notification in the newspaper that the commission was going to conduct the screening test for assistant professor from 10 am to 12 noon on Sunday.

“I was shocked as I saw the notification in the evening after the exam was conducted. I had submitted the form two years back and had no hope of it being conducted. Now that they have conducted the examination without giving all the people a fair chance to compete, it seems they had already decided on whom to select,” said Iftikhar Ahmad of north Kashmir, who missed the test.

Secretary and Controller of Examinations for the Public Service Commission, Shakeel Ul Rehman blamed the Government Information Department for delay in publishing the notification. “At least 436 appeared in the examination in Kashmir and 250 in Jammu which is above average attendance in these examinations,” Rehman said. However, he said the commission would not do anything which would be detrimental for the students.
