Annual prize distribution
GGN Public School, Rose Garden, was abuzz with activity as it celebrated its annual prize distribution function with gaiety and enthusiasm on Tuesday. Dr Gurmohan Singh Walia, Vice-Chancellor, Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib, was the chief guest on this occasion. At the commencement of the programme, students invoked the blessings of the Almighty by singing ‘Deh Shiva Var Mohe Ehe Shubh Karman Te Kab Hun Na Tarun’. Prof Prithipal Singh Kapur, former Pro-Vice-Chancellor, GNDU, Amritsar, and president of the Gujranwala Khalsa Educational Council, Ludhiana, welcomed all dignitaries and guests. A vibrant cultural extravaganza of folk dances, songs, skits and dramas presented by the students kept the audience glued to their seats. At the outset, the students presented the dance ‘Salute to Motherland’ and surcharged the entire atmosphere with patriotic fervour. The audience had a glimpse of the rainy season, the much awaited season and harbinger of hope and happiness for the mankind, flora and fauna.
‘Vehra Shagna Da’ depicted the culture of celebration of marriage ceremonies. The Punjabi skit “Masti Di Pathshala” tickled the funny bone of the audience. The patriotic song sung by the choir swelled everybody’s heart with patriotic zeal. While the mesmerizing Kashmiri dance transported the audience to the enchanting valley of Kashmir, the well synchronised hip hop dance added the western tinge to the show. The melodious Sufi song created a devotional ambience. The unique choreography on effects of light highlighted the importance of light for life on this planet earth. The spellbinding fusion dance stole the show. The entire show came to crescendo when the much-awaited electrifying giddha was performed by the girls.
Director Principal Karnail Singh read out the annual report and acquainted the guests with the achievements of the school. The chief guest gave away the prizes to meritorious students. The overall trophy was awarded to BDS House.
BVM (USN) promotes health, hygiene
BVM Senior Secondary School put forth an enormous step to spread awareness regarding health and hygiene among students. A seminar was organised on the BVM (USN) campus.
It was conducted by food and nutrition department of the PAU under the guidance of Dr Sonika Sharma, Assistant Professor, Department of Food and Nutrition, PAU. Dr Sonika elaborately explained to the students a few health tips such as regularity and importance of breakfast. She acquainted them with the importance of green vegetables and fruits in the diet with the help of a Power Point presentation. Students enjoyed the seminar and exhibition. Useful tips on healthy dietary plans were imparted so that young generation couldn’t get trapped in the vicious circle of deadly diseases. The models showcased for the purpose highlighted the theme of apt ratio of cereals, vegetables and other dietary nutrients. Dr Sonika elaborated the topic that the ratio in dietary plan should be of three-two-one. She concluded the seminar explaining ‘food pyramid’ emphasising the importance of balanced diet. A few healthy recipes were prepared for students, which they relished.
Cadets celebrate Flag Day
The NCC cadets of SDP Senior Secondary School, Hazoori Road, celebrated Indian Armed Forces Flag Day. The cadets organised a rally. They raised slogans and waved the national flag to make them aware about the honour and esteem of the Tricolour. The cadets also shouted slogans to pay their tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the sake of the country.
