Aligning with the Government's vision on Swachh Vidyalaya, Swachh Bharat (SVSB) Campaign, the American India Foundation (AIF) in collaboration with District Education Officer, Panchkula, and school staff of Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 19, Panchkula, organised a short play at Sector 17 Plaza on Monday. The play on ‘Swachh Bharat’ was an initiative to educate community members to keep the environment clean and hygienic.
CULTURAL MEET
Sports-cum-cultural meet 'Athlofest 2016' was organised by St Soldier International Convent School, Mohali, at GMADA Sports Stadium, Sector 78, Mohali, which witnessed a massive participation from students. The event kicked off with a march past by students of Class XII, scouts and guides of the school led by the head boy, head girl and sports leaders. This was followed by the arrival of the torch which was carried in succession by eminent sports persons of the school. The oath taking ceremony was conducted by Principal Vinender Tiwana after which the athletes solemnly pledged to uphold the spirit of true sportsmanship. The panorama of sports, rainbow dance, dandiya and bhangra were the main attractions of this mega event. In the end, the achievers of event were awarded by guest of honour Mewa Singh, Deputy Director, Sports, Punjab. The students of Sahibzada Feteh Singh House bagged the sports trophy. There were 18 events. The students of the Punjab Institute of Sports gave a tough competition to the state champions of the school.—TNS

DAV Public School, Sector 8-C, Chandigarh, celebrated the sports meet of its pre-primary section. The tiny-tots of the school created a beautiful ambience through their performances. The function started with ‘DAV Gaan’. The students mesmerised the audience with their performancse. They also delivered messages on save earth. —TNS
Joint research on sustainable cities
Experts on sustainable cities from the University of Birmingham (UK) have joined Indian partners to lay the foundation for joint research that could help in solving major problems being faced by both the countries. This was decided during the two-day workshop in Chandigarh between the Universities of Birmingham and Nottingham with Panjab University (PU). The experts discussed that how the research specialists in the area of sustainable cities from Birmingham and Chandigarh could help both the countries survive the massive population wave that would hit them in the coming decades. The experts of infection and microbiology discussed joint research opportunities that could help in tackling issues like the causes of antimicrobial resistance. University of Birmingham Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International) Professor Robin Mason said that they would develop long and productive partnerships so that both Indian and British expertise could benefit. The chairperson of the CRIKC and PU Vice Chancellor, Prof Arun Kumar Grover, said that if the university needs funds from the Centre, then they would have to assist them in implementing their agendas like Smart City Mission.—TNS
