Chandigarh, January 9
Soon the Panjab University is going to introduce biometric attendance system for the students who are availing Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme on the campus. The authorities are going to start this as in some states; the students have to submit biometric attendance to avail the fund of the scholarship.
Students are demanding the introduction of the the biometric system from almost two years as they are facing problem in availing their scholarship. Recently, Amarjit from department of evening studies, PU, who is from Haryana, in a student interaction, shared his problem. He had applied for Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme last year, but now the Department of Social Welfare, Haryana, is demanding biometric attendance to award scholarship.
As PU had not started biometric attendance yet, the students are still waiting for their scholarships. This is not the single case but there are large number of students who had failed to avail their scholarship due to non-availability of the biometric attendance. PU Registrar Retd Col GS Chadha said, “Before the next academic session, the machines will be installed on the campus. The biometric attendance system will be implemented on campus in phases for all categories of the students and faculty also. A meeting was held last year with the companies who are going to install the machines on the campus and soon the final call be taken on it.”
In the first phase, bio-metric machines will be installed in the administrative block, Aruna Ranjeet hall and Vice-Chancellor secretariat for the staff. —TNS
