Industries Minister Mukesh Agnihotri today said BSc classes would begin at the Government College, Beetan, in the Haroli segment from the coming academic session. The BCom batch has already completed a year at the college.
Addressing a gathering at the 12th annual function of the college, the minister said postgraduate classes would begin from the next academic session. The strength of girls was more than boys which means that there was a growing awareness about girl education among them.
Agnihotri said 33 schools have been upgraded to senior secondary level. The classes at Government College, Khadd, which was announced by Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh during his visit to Haroli a few days ago, would also begin. College Principal Abhilasha Sharda presented the annual report of the college while students who excelled in different activities during the last session were honoured.
Earlier, Agnihotri laid the foundation stone of the Haroli Press Club building in Tahliwal nagar panchayat. A sum of Rs 25 lakh would be spent on the construction of the building and the work would be completed within six months, the minister said.
He said the government was committed to ensuring welfare of mediapersons. He said a sum of Rs 1 crore had been earmarked in the state budget as the Journalists Welfare Fund.
Haroli Press Club president Narayan Prabhakar and Tahliwal nagar panchayat chairperson Rajvir Kaur were also present on the occasion.
