Ludhiana, August 19

More than 60 schoolchildren from Government Primary School, Jandiali, attended a session on child sexual abuse organised by Young Indians (Yi), Ludhiana chapter.

The session was organised under the Yi National Project – Masoom. Dr Mehak Bansal, Chair Project Masoom, Yi Ludhiana, and Consultant, SPS Hospital, and Laveena Aggarwal, member, Yi-Ludhiana, were the key note speakers, who interacted with the children during the session.

The objective of the ‘Project Masoom’ is to spread awareness among the schoolchildren on various forms of child abuse (physical, verbal or visual), making them aware about the concept of safe and unsafe touch, giving them necessary knowledge and education which can help them in their personal safety from such abuse(s) at home, school or outside.

Dr Mehak stressed upon the fact that, children, whether a girl or a boy belonging to age group of 6 to 12 years, should be careful while interacting with strangers or family members from distant relationships at home, school or at any other place and should develop a consciousness to identify good and bad touch.

While interacting with children, Laveena Aggarwal shared: “To help and guide children, in case if they are facing similar issues a “Childline – 1098” service has also been started. Childline is India’s first and only 24-hour, free, emergency phone outreach service for children in need of care and protection. It is a joint initiative of Childline India Foundation (CIF) and the Ministry for Women and Child Development, Government of India. Any child getting troubled by such issues anywhere in India, can call the Childline help care number- 1098 for any kind of consultation or help from the volunteers.”
