Cambodia Buddhist varsity VC visits JU

Jammu, January 25

The Vice Chancellor, Phreah Sihanouk Raja Buddhist University, Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Ven Khy Sovana Ratana, today visited the University of Jammu and held a meeting with Prof RD Sharma, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, to assess the modalities of implementing the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between the Phreah Sihanouk Raja Buddhist University, Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and the University of Jammu.

Prof Sharma and Ratana discussed in detail the MoU that was signed with the view of establishing academic, research and cultural cooperation and to collaborate, share and exchange the resources and projects such as faculty visits, students exchange, cross-institutional study, promotion of courses and pathways and sharing of information and related materials.

Describing the outreach exchange programmes as an important part of the university’s effort to make students understand the world in a better way, Prof Sharma said the agreement would help forge a closer partnership between the two academic institutions in the field of higher education and scholarly interactions and would open up new vistas of exchange programmes for the students.

Stressing on the importance of collaboration between the institutions of higher education, he said the agreement of mutual exchange of academic and research activities would be a milestone for the academic and administrative excellence for both the institutions and would also help their students to understand the Buddhist philosophy and culture.

In his address, Ratana showed his gratitude for entering into an agreement with the land which has spread the message of the Buddha to the whole world.

Prof Baidyanath Labh, Head of the Department of Buddhist Studies, who played a key role in bringing the MoU in letter and spirit, informed that with the agreement between these two institutions the students, scholars, teachers and administrations would be able to visit each other’s institution and get acquainted with the way of working through faculty and student exchange programmes.
