Heads of CBSE schools are not happy with the slew of circulars being brought out by the CBSE for celebrating days and floating several essay series including the expression series on several personalities.
They say that such circulars only create unnecessary burden and disrupt schedule as these are often sent on short notice from the board.
“CBSE started sending too many circulars for the past year or so. There have been too many circulars asking schools to celebrate several commemorative days,” said Mona Singh, principal, Guru Nanak Public School. “A week back, there was a circular asking schools to take students to Parliament or Legislative Assembly. Is it possible to organize such a trip at such a short notice” she said. “We already have several events in our annual calendar and there is no need for more such events to be added. If the board feels that if more such days need to be celebrated, such events and days should be chalked out in advance, at the start of the session so that such days can be incorporated in the school calendar, rather than sending such circulars abruptly at such short notice,” she added.
“The board has send circulars about celebrating days even during the summer break. Schools already celebrate such days, why does the board specifically need to send circulars about it,” complained another school principal.
“If the board is too keen about making students aware about certain personalities and issues, these should rather be incorporated in the syllabus and books, rather than asking to celebrate such days or write essays about them out of the blue,” she added. “Even the purpose of celebrating the days is defeated as schools are not prepared beforehand to celebrate these days and many schools completely miss out on such celebrations or just ignore these circulars,” she said.
Some principals said the board should rather focus towards raising the standard of education and making sure that the standards are being met and maintained, rather than sending circulars. “As a governing, affiliating and regulating body, CBSE should be keeping a check on the educational standard, seeing if the norms are being followed, rather than resorting to sending circulars like this stating clelbration of days,” another principal said.
