Chief Scientist of Council of Scientific & Industrial Research-Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology, Palampur, Dr Anil Sood, has assumed the charge of acting director of the institute.
This was informed in a press note issued by the institute here yesterday.
Dr Sood is also the head of biotechnology division, business development and marketing unit of the institute. He did his Ph D from Punjab University, Chandigarh and has specialisation in plant tissue culture.
He has been engaged in the area of biotechnology, including micropropagation protocols in tea, bamboo, rose, gladiolus, orchids, stevia, ferns and a number of medicinal plants of higher reaches of Himalaya.
He has published a large number of papers in national and international reputed journals and guided 9 PhD students.
He established nurseries of various species of bamboos, including edible one, supplied to different corners of the country and also set up a bamboo museum at the institute.
