City student tops national mathematics olympiad

Chandigarh, February 28

Aneesh Garg, a student of Class XI, Bhavan Vidyalaya, has done the city proud by topping the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO). Aneesh shares the top spot with Tarush Goyal, a Class XI student of BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana, who took coaching for the INMO in Chandigarh.

Both the boys have achieved All-India Rank 1 by scoring 90 out of 102 marks. 

Aneesh and Tarush are followed by Pranav Goyal of Class XI, Bhavan Vidyalaya, Panchkula, who has bagged the All-India Rank 5 by scoring 77 marks. Rahul, a student of Class XI has bagged the All-India Rank 9 with 74 marks.  The Mathematics Olympiad is conducted under the aegis of the National Board of Higher Mathematics (NBHM).

Meanwhile, several city students made it to the Indian National Olympiad (INO), the results of which were also declared today. Manthan Jindal scored 59.5 in Physics and 74 in astronomy. Ritvik Kapila scored 69 in chemistry and  Sarvesh Mehtani scored 58 in physics and 64 in chemistry.—TNS

WHAT IS INMO

The Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) is a high school mathematics competition held annually in India since 1989. It is the second tier in the Indian team selection procedure for the International Mathematical Olympiad and is conducted by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) under the aegis of the National Board of Higher Mathematics (NBHM).
