City students’ engineering dreams come true!

Students in city were a happy lot as they performed exceptionally well in the IITJEE (Advanced) exam, the results of which were declared today.

Chakshu Goyal from the city notched up an all-India rank of 119, while Saransh Goyal secured AIR 132 in the exam. Tushar Gupta secured AIR 194, Bakshishpreet Singh secured AIR 471, while Gurbir Singh secured 678 all-India rank and Kawarpreet Singh secured 958th rank.

Chakshu says he wants to pursue BTech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Bombay. His father Mukesh Goyal is a bank manager and mother Sunita Gupta is a teacher at a government school. He had secured 98 per cent in Class XII from Stepping Stones School, Chandigarh. Talking about his strategy, he said time management was the key.

Saransh Goyal, who secured 132th rank, wants to pursue BTech in Computer Science either from IIT Kanpur or IIT Delhi. He was inspired to get into engineering by his father Rakesh Goyal, who is working as an IT head at a reputed company in the city. His mother Nirja Goyal is a housewife. Saransh is also a beneficiary of government of India’s scholarship programmes including National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) as well as Kishor Vigyan Protsahan Yojana (KVPY). He did his Class XII from Mount Carmel, Chandigarh, and secured 92 per cent marks. He used to study for 5-6 hours every day. “In IITJEE (Advanced) exam, one should avoid attempting questions they are not sure of due to negative marking,” he said.

Tushar Gupta, who secured 194th rank, says he wants to pursue BTech in computer or electrical engineering from IIT Kanpur or IIT Delhi. His father BK Gupta is a doctor and mother Shalini Gupta is a dentist. Tushar likes swimming and reading novels during breaks. He took coaching from Chandigarh and completed his Class XII from Stepping Stones School, Chandigarh. He used to study for six hours every day.

Bakshishpreet Singh, a student of BCM School, Basant Avenue, topped in non-medical stream from the schools in the city and secured 97 per cent marks in Class XII. He secured the all-India rank 471 and wants to pursue BTech in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Bombay. His father Harpal Singh is a lab technician at PAU and mother Pushpinder Kaur is a housewife. His sister is also pursuing M Tech from GADVASU. He loves playing videogames and basketball during leisure time and says that one should focus on preparing from competition point of view.

Gurbir Singh secured 578th rank and wants to pursue engineering physics from IIT Bombay. His father Harjeet Singh is in the IT sector, while mother Navinder Kaur is a housewife. It was his second attempt as he got ill during the JEE exam last year. He said discipline was important if one had dropped a year. “Though I was getting admission in other colleges, I wanted to pursue engineering from IIT. My dream has come true,” he said.

Kawarpreet Singh, another student who took coaching from Edusquare, has secured 958th rank. A student of Sacred Heart Convent School, he wants to pursue engineering from IIT Roorke and had secured 96.4 per cent marks. His father Davindar Singh is a businessman and mother Sarabjit Kaur is a housewife. He said time management was the key in this exam and taking some guidance as to how to go about the exam could prove very useful.
