Over the last few days students of Government Girls Middle School at Mundhal Khurd village in the district have been attending classes in a pathetic environment.
As the playground in the area has been waterlogged due to accumulated rainwater, foul smell emanates from the ground, surrounding classrooms and toilets.
Due to this mees, the toilets meant for the use of nearly 135 girls and the school staff remains non-functional. A parent, who visited the school, said his daughter was now attending classes at the nearby government boys’ school.
“The girl students who come from a humble background are struggling for want of clean toilets, hygienic midday meals, and a reprieve from the stench. Their parents are aware about the ongoing problem, but they are too busy earning their livelihood to run after the school authorities,” confided a school teacher.
School headmaster Lakhiram Sharma said owing to the problem, girls were shifted to the boys’ school located nearby and the matter was brought to the notice of the Education Department and the village panchayat. “We are waiting for them to respond and pump out the excess water to carry out regular school activities,” he said.
District Elementary Education Officer Satbir Siwach said a new building was being constructed for the students. “There is no use of spending money on a present building as the girls would be shifted to the new building as soon it get constructed,” he said.
