College gets vermicompost unit

A vermicompost production unit was established at the Sanmati Government College of Science Education and Research. Prominent social activist Mohan Singh Gill inaugurated the unit.

College director Dr Mohinder Kaur Grewal said the unit was established with the grant given under National Environment Awareness Scheme.

Grewal said the unit would be helpful in management of waste biomass of the institute. “In this plant, students will be able to see closely earthworms converting the waste biomass into something useful,” said Grewal.

She said students from rural background, too, would be able to give knowledge about this plant to farmers. The tendency to use bio-fertilisers will get boost leading to environmental improvement, she said.
